Lions and tigers and bears, oh my! And they really do have all three at the Wild Animal Sanctuary here in Colorado!
Tom did his research, as always, and said the place has over 9,793 acres of land. Oinks that’s big! Do you know what the word ‘sanctuary’ means? It’s a place where animals or people are safe and protected from danger. All of the animals at the Wild Animal Sanctuary have been rescued from places where people weren’t being very nice to them. They have over 460 rescued animals from all over the world – Hooray!
Tom and I went along the walkway with someone guiding us. We saw everything from camels to wolves to prickly porcupines! Each type of animal lives in its own area which has their natural habitat. Do you know what habitat means? As a hog, It was so great to see these animals living happily!
I’ve got to go for now. Can’t wait to catch you on our next exciting trip!
The Wild Animal Sanctuary
Tom here, giving you a big oink!
We’re at Cannon Beach, in Oregon! Here, they’ve had a sandcastle contest every summer for over 50 years! It’s the coolest event... ever! Some of the castles are soooo tall, well over the tallest human’s head! Can you imagine?!
For the contest, anyone from professional artists, to regular groups and families can do it! Lily and I walked around the beach to see the cool, super detailed sand castles!
And it isn’t just castles - there are sand-animals, mermaids, and sand-cities! My favorite is a scary, towering dragon-head, while Lily likes the mermaid riding a wave! What would you make from sand?
We didn’t actually enter the contest, but Lily and I did make our own little castle on the side. We decorated it with seashells. Have you ever built a sand castle?
Okay, gotta sign-off for now. Have an oink-tastic day and see you next time!
Hiya Hog-Friends, Lily here!
Waving at you… (you)… (you)..., from the mysterious caves... (cases)... (caves)…! Can you imagine that echo – our voices bouncing off the cave walls?!
Tom and me are underground in the Mammoth Cave National Park in Kentucky! Tom researched it, of course, and found out It’s the longest known cave-system in the world! Can you guess how many miles it is? If you guessed more than 400 miles of caves, you’re right!
There are tons of super cool formations, or shapes, in different cave ‘rooms’. My favorite was one called Frozen Niagara, after the famous Niagara Falls. It has limestone rock in the shape of a big, frozen-in-time waterfall! Can you picture that?! Check out our pics!
Tom and I even made a new, kind of spooky friend – a gray bat named Maya! She led us around and told us that Indiana and Gray bats live in the caves. Kentucky Cave Shrimp are found there too, but they are an endangered species, which means there don’t have many of their kind left in the world! Do you know of any other types of endangered species?
Well, I should get going before I get lost, now that Maya’s flown off! Catch ya on the next exciting trip!
Hi oinksters, Tom here!
Whew, is it ever hot down here in sunny Florida! Hot but fun here in the Everglades National Park!
Do you know what kind of animal is in the picture Lily snapped – an alligator or an crocodile? Do you know how to tell them apart?! Well, my research shows that the easiest way is by their snout and jaw! Alligators have a wider, U-shaped snout, and crocodiles have a longer one with a pointy V-shape! This, friends, is an alligator!
We took a boat tour from a place called ‘Flamingo’ - Can you guess what kind of bird lives there? I’ll give you a hint… they’re pink and stand on long thin legs! That’s right, flamingos!!
The tour was amazing, going through the swampy water! There’s so much to do here on the over 1.5 million acres of land – biking, hiking, fishing, kayaking and canoeing! Which activity would you pick out of those?
Okay friend, I’d better get going! But I hope to see you on next adventure!
Hi Friend! I'm Lily (with the glasses!) and this is my best friend and fellow traveler, Tom!
We love exploring new places and meeting new people. That includes hogs like us, other kinds of animals and humans, like you!
In each new place, Tom and I adventure out to try new foods and fun activities! Tom is an amazing cook and likes to re-make the new dishes we've tried at home :)
Now, I'm not good at cooking but I am good at photography! I take a zillion pictures wherever we go! Tom and I make an awesome team. I like to go, go, go, and he likes to take his time to look, read and study - it's perfect!
We're excited to share our pics, fun facts and exciting stories with you! You never know where we'll head to next - maybe your town!
Follow our journey and join in on the fun! If you happen to see us on the road, give an oink and a wave!
